TV Is Bad For You

When we fill our lives with worthless junk, we become, like the junk - worthless. Here’s my invitation to you to join me, us (my family) in our journey to rid our life of the worthless and fill it instead with the worthwhile.

Here’s an example. A true example as it happens.

We recently sold our 32″ TV, my XBox (with games), most of our movies (over 120), my couch, and some misc furniture. Why did I do this? Well, as to the electronics, I was tired of having the mind-dulling teat of worthless mass-media in my mouth all the time.

The furniture I parted with less happily, but not grudgingly. I needed the money more than I needed to perch my lazy rear on a comfy recliner wrap-around sectional sofa. I do have a five-dollar auction couch to replace it with, so all is not lost.

I sold an “antique” wardrobe also. But as I was using this primarily to store my DVD’s it was essentially worthless without them. Plus it opens up my living room so I actually have room to live now.

So here’s my invitation:

Have a computer. Have the Internet. Hack out code until your eyes hurt.
Plant a garden, hike the mountains, get married.

But burn your TV, it’s a black hole for time and energy -
it has nothing to do with real life.

Just remember; life is short, time is fleeting so love your family, love God,
find Jesus (He is the narrow gate.)

Be a nerd, be a geek. Love your nerd, love your geek.

But balance your nerdish geeky tendencies with love.
