Lonely and Sad
written by: Tim Gallagher

Over there, at the edge of the field
Along the fence row, well, it's gone
Now, but before, just a few weeks ago
Perhaps it was years, I can't be sure
But what I'm trying to say is this
Where the fence used to be ran a row
Silent round haybales standing like
Giant round sentinels standing guard
Over the tree, under the tree
Yeah, over at the edge of the field
But now it's all gone, and in it's place
Greedy small men have erected wooden
Idols for other small men and women
To spend their lives in...
Yeah... to spend their lives in
As they pursue their dreams
Happiness? HA! Not hardly
We're talking money, power, and fame, baby

The bales are gone now...
The tree's still there...
Lonely he stands there...
And when it rains...
And the drops splash...
They mingle with my tears
And splash down to rest
Right here at my feet
As I think underneath
This lonely sad tree

This has happened near where I live. Every day for years I would notice the haybales under a tree by a fence row, and now they're gone.
