cold gold
written by: Tim Gallagher

it's amazing really
how a simple thing
like a finger
and a band of gold
can bring a girl
in out of the cold
warm her heart
secure forever
her affections
until you realize
that simple, round,
unendingly complete
simple chunk of metal
represents
the weight of
a love completely
complete in its yearning
to come as close
to perfect as human love can.
my heart to hers
my eyes to hers
my soul to hers
my fingers to hers
my everything for her
all I am before God
putting Him first
(duh)
and all these things
she and I share:
wants, dreams, desires,
needs, our lives;
all bound up in
a God-fearing love
(for Him first
each other second)
I love her so much
and so we see that
round circular band
isn't just
metal and rock
but my determined
stubborn self
telling her,
"honey, it's life
it's love, it's "we",
it's us, yeah you and me.
we'll follow God,
side by side
hand in hand
arm in arm
and that's it, that's all,
and that's the end,
and there's nothing
you can do,
nothing
you can say,
nothing
to make me stop doing
this thing called love
because our's was made
in Heaven above."
