Autumn Colors
written by: Tim Gallagher

Inside a circle made of golden summer
On top of the brown dot you'll find there
Between the blue canvas sky
And the brown earthen vase
Above the grassy green prairie ocean
Where a breath of wind sets everything to motion
Running along the outer circle of the center
Is a little any busily preparing for winter
What it is an ant needs to take
From this golden, summer, circular
Boat afloat in the autumn breeze
Is beyond my comprehension
And even after I misplace my attention
And forget the ant even exists at all
Still he'll be there
Doing that self-preservation crawl
And you may say to yourself
"It's instinct, everybody knows that."
But you're just like the people
Who used to say, "Yup, the earth is flat."
Because I know the ant has help
He feels what it is I once felt
It goes beyond instinct
To an involvement distinct
The direction of God is known best
By those who listen to Him closest
